Call for the Special Issue on AI-Based Technologies in FL Teaching and Learning
The journal Advanced Education invites submissions for Special Issue 28, dedicated to exploring the role of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in foreign language teaching and learning at university. The increasing availability of AI-powered tools is rapidly transforming pedagogical practices, learner engagement, assessment, and teacher professional roles in language education. This special issue aims to capture evidence-based insights into how AI technologies are currently being implemented and evaluated in real educational contexts.
Scope and Focus
We particularly encourage empirical research papers that examine the pedagogical effectiveness, challenges, and outcomes of using AI technologies in foreign language education. Given the fast-paced nature of AI development and classroom adoption, the special issue also welcomes case studies and short communications that report immediate or early-stage results of AI implementation, innovative teaching practices, and practical classroom experiences. Such contributions are valuable for documenting emerging trends, informing timely pedagogical decisions, and supporting evidence-based innovation.
Topics of Interest Include (but are not limited to):
- Empirical studies on AI-supported foreign language teaching and learning at the university level
- Learner interaction with AI tools in L2/FL skills development (writing, speaking, reading, listening)
- AI-assisted feedback, assessment, and evaluation in language education
- Teacher beliefs, self-efficacy, and professional development related to AI use
- Classroom-based case studies of AI integration in foreign language courses
- Short reports on pilot projects and early implementation outcomes
- Ethical considerations, academic integrity, and responsible AI use
- AI, learner autonomy, motivation, and engagement in language learning
- Curriculum design and pedagogical models for AI-enhanced language education
Contributions may employ quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods approaches and should demonstrate clear relevance to foreign language education.
